Jan Lilius

Jan Lilius has over 30 years of experience in insolvency matters. During his extensive career, Lilius has handled some of the largest bankruptcy estates in Finland and matters of companies undergoing corporate restructuring proceedings. He has advised both domestic and foreign creditors in insolvency proceedings and, outside insolvency proceedings, debtor companies facing payment difficulties and their boards. He has also acted as chair and member of creditor committees in some of Finland’s most significant insolvency proceedings. A significant share of his work has been cross-border. Lilius has been ranked in international publications among Finland’s leading insolvency lawyers for 15 years.
Lilius has also acted as counsel for domestic and foreign clients in numerous corporate disputes, including insolvency-related disputes and complex construction disputes. He regularly represents Finnish and foreign companies in court proceedings and arbitration under the Finnish Arbitration Act and the Arbitration Rules of the Finland Chamber of Commerce.
Lilius serves as Vice Chair of the Finnish Insolvency Law Association. In addition, he served as a member of INSOL Europe’s Council in 2019–2025 and continues to act as Finland’s Country Coordinator. He has spoken at several INSOL Europe events.
